Right, Wrong, and the State

Today, the Supreme Court of the United States legalized same-sex marriage. How are we Christians, who have the clear teaching of scripture on such issues, to react to it?

One thing is certain, the way to react to it is the way we should react to everything in life; take it to Our Lord in prayer, and study his word for examples of the conduct we should exemplify.

So what do I mean by "conduct we should exemplify"? Let me take this by example: In the Roman world of the early Christians, immorality of all kinds was rife. Some historians estimate that half of the population of the Roman Empire were slaves. Sexual immorality of all kinds was rife, along with about every sin we see around us today. So what did these early Christians do? They preached the gospel, lived the Christian life as God gave them strength, and died believing in the truth and trusting in the promises of God. We need to do the same!

The darker the moral night becomes, the more the light of Christ can shine through us to other people. Do not take up violence or get carried away with causes; seek to bring more people to Christ. He has the ability to change hearts - we do not. We are only the bearers and examples of what he has done for us, so that others can see.

It is a big, bad world, and has been since Adam and Eve fell in the Garden of Eden. But we Christians know, really know, one thing - What a man (or woman) sows, that is what they will reap. We need to be sowing the seed of the Gospel. We don't cause the seed to grow; our God sees to that.

Remember: but for the Grace of God, you and I would act the same way and go the same way. Let's all pray for strength to sow the seeds and to be patient. Our God will see us through to eternal life in him!

Till next time,
