Reminiscing

Today is one of those days where what happened leads me into thinking how our lives as Christians can be different than the lives of those who don't believe. What happened is that I was listening to series of podcasts from leadership in the company that I work for that talked about what they think the future of the company is. I found myself being skeptical of the messages I was hearing.

But then I stopped and asked myself a series of questions, which led to this one: "What, actually, did I hear?" And then it came to me: what I had heard was what these leaders believe about how our business is now, and where they think it is going. Nothing more and nothing less than that. I had no way to judge whether those things said were accurate about where we are today; nor can I predict any better than they can where this company is going. So why was I being so down on the whole thing? I was wrong and I repented of my sin, the sin of pre-judging things that I have no right to.

Right then and there, God opened my eyes to see something very important: the difference in outlook of man "under the sun" and man who has been saved by believing in what Jesus did for him. Because the Holy Spirit begins guiding us from the moment we first believe, our vision begins to fix itself on eternal things, not the things of this world. We begin to see that doing God's will is the most important thing and everything else is secondary. The most a non-believe can hope for is to "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow you die." For the Christian, ours is "that blessed hope, that we shall be with Jesus where he is." The non-believer places all his hope in the things of this world, and ultimately will find the experience hollow and empty. We can have a rich and full life with Christ. Isn't that Wonderful, my Christian friend?

Till next time,

Duane

PS: It is now December 2020 and I have learned much since this post was made. God has led me into understanding that looking for eternal things can blind one to the present. As a believer, you can decieve yourself in this way; once again becoming a powerless victim of your circumstances, blinding yourself to the joy of God's presence here and now. I could write a long time on this and still not express it well, because words fail. It is when you look on yourself and the world, seeking the reality in everything, that you begin to understand this.

When your eyes open to reality you truly repent. As Jesus told us, the past is dead. The future does not exist. Today is the day the Lord has made, and he is there.

I know of a couple of houses in the area that put signs in their yard that said "God's Got This". And he truly does. Always.
