Daylight Savings Time 2021

Posted on Sat 20 March 2021 in Blog

Last Sunday, the state where I live went on Daylight Savings Time (DST), and all of our clocks were set ahead one hour. I spent time listening to what people around me said about the change. People who like it think that they have more "time". People against it hate the twice-a-year wrench it gives our bodies.

I have also read about workplace studies that show a drop in productivity and increased sick time at the change to DST and the return to standard time.

What does it all mean?

It inspired me to write a poem about it; and thinking it over, I chose to share it. Here it is:

    What, say I
        to the fools among men?

You think you can save daylight
by moving the hands of a clock

    You create in your mind
        an Aribitrary time
            then bow down and worship!

    Never knowing, never seeing
that it is nothing, a mirage
            and dying all the same.

While writing this, I thought about a song from from the band Chicago, "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?". I looked up the lyrics on-line and found them here. Read them or listen to the song if you have the time - there is a LOT of truth in it.

Till next time,
